What does it mean to “Live Aloha”?

“What does it mean to live aloha?”

Here at Sweet Aloha Ice Cream, we live by our unofficial motto of “Live Aloha!” But, you may be wondering, “What does it mean to live aloha?” In Hawaiian culture, the word “aloha” means more than just a simple greeting. Aloha has a much deeper cultural meaning and significance, and native Hawaiians use the word to describe “a force holding together existence.” To “live aloha” is to treat people like family and always make them feel welcomed.

When new employees are hired at Sweet Aloha Ice Cream, we teach them to live aloha. In the store, we live aloha by giving everyone who walks inside a nice, warm “Aloha!” as a greeting when they come in the door. We also strive to treat all of our customers with kindness and respect, as if they were one of our own family members. This behavior is ubiquitous in Hawaii, and we want to bring it with us to spread in the mainland.

At Sweet Aloha Ice Cream, we also strive to bring attention to Hawaiian culture and history in general. By spreading the meaning of live aloha throughout the mainland, we’re also bringing attention to Hawaiian culture and history, which has largely been lost over time due to colonization. We want to perpetuate this culture and raise awareness of the rich history of Hawaii. Aloha is way more than just a word in Hawaii, it's a lifestyle!
